Barbed threads are placed in two vectors to lift the cheek, minimize nasal labial folds and commissure at the edge of the mouth. As with all barbed vector threads, the area is treated with local anesthetic before introduction of the thread. Smooth threads are woven in-between vectors to build stronger cheek structure and support. This is an excellent area in which dermal fillers compliment the treatment to increase result longevity.
With this treatment the patient is provided medication to put them at ease. We ask the patient to come to treatment with a driver. Once the medication has worn off, the patient is permitted to return all normal activity with the exception of aerobic exercise. This should be avoided for 48 hours to reduce thermal heat in the area.
The area will feel tight as the barbed threads settle into place. The patient is encouraged to return to normal activities but may notice the threads pulling for the first few days. Ice can be used to minimize bruising and swelling. Some patients are able to feel the edge of a thread through the skin. This is not a reason for concern, as with dermal fillers, over the first few days, the threads settle into place and begin incorporation into the skin.
