What is Bellafill?
If you want an injectable wrinkle filler that provides lasting wrinkle correction, Bellafill may be right for you. If you have used Hyaluronic Acid wrinkle fillers in the past, then you know that as time passes, they are completely absorbed by your body.
Bellafill is different from HA injectable wrinkle fillers. The unique microspheres in Bellafill are not absorbed by the body and create a microscopic ‘matrix’ to support your body’s own natural collagen* and ultimately strengthen the layers that support the skin.
Bellafill is used for the correction of wrinkles and to replace lost collagen volume. It contains 20% tiny, round, non-resorbable, smooth particles (PMMA microspheres); and 80% purified bovine collagen gel with 0.3% lidocaine, an anesthetic. Wrinkle correction with Bellafill improves over the course of several months.
Bellafill is made with microsphere-enhanced collagen. Over time the collagen is absorbed and the microspheres create a microscopic ‘matrix’ to support your body’s own natural collagen* and ultimately strengthen the layers that support the skin. The integration of your own collagen provides a smoother more natural feel on the surface of your skin.
Treatment with Bellafill is very similar to treatment with conventional injectable fillers. The injection process has improved as this product is delivered via a cannula. This reduces the number of needle sticks & increases comfort to the patient. Bellafill contains lidocaine which minimizes discomfort during injection. With proper placement, Bellafill cannot be felt after treatment. You may see immediate results in wrinkle correction and can return to your normal daily activities after the procedure.
As with any injectable filler, you may experience temporary pain, swelling and reddening at the treatment site. Occasionally, there is transient bruising that typically disappears within 7 days. Less common side effects include rash and itching more than 48 hours after treatment, persistent swelling or redness, and increased sensitivity at injection sites. Be sure to call us immediately if you notice any unusual skin reactions around the treatment area.
The main difference is that Bellafill requires a skin test to identify those patients who may have an allergy to bovine collagen or lidocaine.
First Appointment: Your skin test. A small amount of purified bovine collagen gel is injected in the forearm to ensure you have no adverse reactions to bovine collagen and/or lidocaine.
Second appointment: If there have been no adverse reactions to the initial test, you are ready for treatment. Upon injection, you will see immediate improvement to lines and wrinkles. The amount of Bellafill required will depend on the severity of the lines/wrinkles being addressed.
Third appointment: A follow-up is scheduled at 4-6 weeks. We then can help you assess your results you can then to decide if you would like to further enhance or correct the area. Unlike HA fillers, the correction does not wear completely off within 6-12 months. Regardless of whether you opt to add more or wait to additional treatment, some of the Bellafill will remain long term. Each time more correction is made 20% of the product will continue to build the collagen you have lost.
Enjoy a refreshed look that can last.
